Christopher Isherwood misogyny
I read a review about Christopher Isherwood’s complete journals Liberation in Saturday’s Guardian 2nd June and was struck by an example of his gratutious misogyny. This was an appraisal about a novel written by Dodie Beesley who was apparently one of his friends: “ one of those patty-paws romances, a little kiss here, a little wistful regret there, ….. Magazine writing. What’s wrong with it actually? It’s so pleased with itself, so fucking smug, so snugly cunty, the art of women who are delighted with themselves and who patronise men. They know that there is nothing, there can be nothing outside of the furry rim of their cunts and their kitchens, their children and their clubs”.
