Tooting Interfaith Walk with Muslim dress code.

I got an invite as a SACRE member from Wandsworth Council to join a Tooting Interfaith Walk from Mosque to the Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park.

Annual Inter Faith Walks » South London Inter Faith Group

I think it is insensitive and insulting to issue an invitation for a walk  to different religious buildings that carries a diktat of Dress Modestly.

Their prescription for modest dress – arms, legs and shoulders be covered. The walk is in July in Summer weather! And At some stops ladies ( and sometimes men)  will be asked to cover their heads so bring a scarf or a cap.

Such commands are not just insulting and rude they are gestapo-like commands which can only emanate from Muslims and therfore exert a strenuous Muslim bias which is NOT conducive to a genuinely inclusive multi-religious gathering let alone one that is to include non-religious people.

Of course, I know that this invitation is aimed at religionists whom they expect will accept such a compromising, sharia dress code to prove how tolerant they are of other religions.  I certainly could not accept such an invitation as it is against my beliefs to accept such a sexist/misogynist dress code. I think the proposed Tooting Interfaith Walk is contrary to good community relations. The demographic of this photo from the Interfaith website reveals that those attending are not mainly Muslim.

I don’t think that the Wandsworth SACRE should be promoting such events like this or endorsing and supporting the activities such as the Christain street pastors from taxpayers revenue.    wandsworth street pastors Wandsworth Street PastorsWandsworth Borough Council

Referring to your comment on the sexiest dress code for a walk I would humbly like to say that the covering if the head is a symbol of a chaste woman in the Bible. Even Nuns respectfully cover their heads. Therefore I think the dress code was perfect since most faiths cover their heads in religious places. I read this article just now though the walk is long gone. I couldn’t help commenting.
